Quezon City 6th District Representative Jose Christopher "Kit" Belmonte prides himself as being a consummate public servant, having spent most of his life as a public interest lawyer, community organizer and an NGO worker.
Congressman Kit was born in Baguio City, the 1st child of Dennis and Elsie Belmonte. He attended Maryknoll Convent school before obtaining his high school diploma at UP College Baguio.
For his tertiary education, he enrolled at the University of the Philippines Diliman School of Economics. He was an active student leader in his time at the state university, fighting not just for students but for the UP community in its entirety. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, he pursued his law studies at the UP College of Law. His passion for service was recognized early, as he finished his Bachelor of Laws with the distinction of Outstanding Office of Legal Aid Intern.
While in law school, Kit became part of the legislative staff of then 4th district Representative Feliciano Belmonte Jr. He was also the head for pollwatching operations in the successful Mayoralty bids of the current House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte.
Passing the bar marked the beginning of his relentless desire to share his legal knowledge to those in need, providing training to community paralegals and free legal clinics. Kit served as the Paralegal Program Officer for Empowering Civic Participation and Governance, before co-founding Belmonte Sison Sawali & Associates. Concurrently, he offered his services as a consultant for the Center for Empowering Communities.
Kit also shared his legal expertise in media as a co-host of Serbis on the Go, a public service program on IBC Channel 13. Before entering politics, he became a consultant for the Liga ng mga Barangay in Quezon City and the Administrator of the Historical Banlat Area under the Office of the Mayor.
Soon after, he was chosen as a consultant for the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs under the Office of the President before fulfilling his mandate to represent the sixth district of Quezon City in the House of Representatives.
Kit is a member of the Quezon City chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the Philippine Trial Lawyers' Association, Lion's Club International, and the UP Alpha Sigma Fraternity.
